The best selection of ‘Menú del Día’ in Barcelona

‘Menú del día’ is a concept that dates back to the Franco era when workers needed to be fed well, for cheap! For this reason, it’s a very traditional concept and is generally found in local restaurants with a changing menu every day. So honestly, the best way to find them is to wander around and hunt for the daily specials. However, if your hangry self needs to find somewhere and quick, here are a few of my favourite choices that perhaps aren’t so traditional.

Bun Bo

Bun Bo is a delicious Vietnamese inspired restaurant with a menu del día for only 10.60€ (or an extra euro if you sit on the terrace), which includes 3 courses and a drink. There are two in the city to choose from, one in the Gothic Quarter and another in Raval, however, I’d recommend the first, as it is right next to the Kissing Wall of Freedom, which is an absolute must-see!

Rosa Negra

Offers a hearty (and cheap!) menu including 3 courses and a drink… although in my experience you get stuffed before dessert! The menu has all of your favourite Mexican dishes on there from fajitas to quesadillas. It is also a great place to have some drinks, with weekly special cocktails and a home-brewed IPA.

Local Kitchen & Bar

Wholesome home-cooked food, varying every day. The menu is simply displayed on a chalkboard outside – so you know it is fresh! From croquettes to start to spicy arrabbiata or risotto for seconds. And to top it off, the portion sizes are very generous, so you will definitely leave feeling full and content.

La Picantería de l’Escribà

A place where food from Peru, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan all meet to create traditional and exciting dishes. This 12€ menu has a range of fish and meat dishes, and delicious desserts and the not to mention, the chips are the perfect hand-made. The restaurant is also decorated with an exotic flair and makes you feel as though you’re somewhere a little further than Poble Nou!

Tlaxcal Cantina & Taquería Gastronómica

Similar to Rosa Negra, Tlaxcal offers a delicious Mexican menu but focused more on tacos. For 12€ you get a choice of a starter, followed by tacos of your choice, and then a dessert or a coffee, with a drink too! There’s never a bad time for tacos…

La Foga

No matter the time of day La Foga is busy, and with its great reviews, I’m not surprised! They offer a selection of Mediterranean dishes, including fish paella! It has a 10% supplement to sit on the terrace, but it is a perfect place to sit, whether it be in the sun or snuggled up next to the heaters!

Cocovail Beer Hall

This isn’t quite a Menu del día, but a great weekday special. From Monday to Friday between 12.30 and 4 pm you can get 6 wings (and they’re the BEST wings in Barcelona) and a drink or half a Pilsner for 6€. I recommend the honey bbq or the teriyaki wings (and stay clear of the garlic parmesan).
